Ryder makes contributions to non-profit organizations through the Ryder Charitable Foundation. The Foundation emphasizes support for those communities where significant numbers of employees live and work. The Foundation offers support through cash grants and coordinating volunteerism of employees. The Foundation assists a wide variety of programs and organizations that pertain to health and human needs, education, the cultural arts and other community organizations.
The Ryder Charitable Foundation was established in 1984 as a private foundation. The Foundation works to help address important social needs and improve the quality of life for many people in communities in which the Company does business in the United States. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors which is composed of Ryder corporate executive management. It awards grants to IRS certified, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose activities and programs meet its philanthropic goals and objectives.
Human Needs, including health and civic services, account for 45 percent of the Foundation’s donations. Education accounts for 40 percent of the Foundation’s donations. The Ryder Foundation has supported many colleges and universities within the United States over the years through our Employee Matching Gifts to Education program as well as through direct donations to universities/colleges. Cultural Arts account for 15 percent of the Foundation’s donations.
The Foundation has a long standing history of funding community organizations near its South Florida corporate Headquarters, such as the United Way of Miami Dade, through direct funding and employee contributions. The Foundation also provided initial construction funding and continues to fund the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, one of the leading trauma centers in the nation and the only one chosen by the U.S. Army to train their military surgical teams before being deployed to areas of conflict. In addition, the Foundation supported the American Red Cross during hurricane and tsunami relief efforts with direct donations and by matching employee contributions.
The Foundation also provides funding throughout the U.S. where the company's employees live and work, and where it serves customers. The Foundation utilizes Public Affairs Councils to coordinate funding in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX, Novi (Detroit), MI, and Alpharetta (Atlanta), GA, where the company has large employee populations.
In 2009 Ryder selected the American Red Cross as the company's primary, national charitable partner. Click here to learn more about Ryder's support of the American Red Cross.
